President’s Update Term 1 2012
Dear Members
Welcome to a new year!
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce the three new committee members elected to the ETAWA Executive at the 2011 AGM: Nick Ognenis, Dennise Cooper and Alison Jutsum, and thank them for nominating for the Executive and for being prepared to offer their time and expertise in 2012. Lorna Wardle, Ryan Verge ,Kiran Nair, Mairead Taylor and Steven Kemp are returning Executive members and I look forward to working with them again this year to build on the momentum from 2011.
2012 will be a crucial year for Economics teaching with ACARA’s Phase 3 work on Business and Economics getting underway in earnest. There is now a direct link on the ETAWA homepage to the ACARA website both for the curriculum updates and for employment opportunities in regards to writers and positions on the Advisory Group, which should become available this year. Watch this space!
The year for ETAWA begins with the much anticipated Sundowner at the Oxford Hotel on Friday 24 February, the focus for which is the WACE 2011 Wrap-up presented by Steven Kemp. Details are in the ETAWA mail out to schools along with the membership application for 2012 and other key pieces of information for the year ahead. Confirmed dates for the diary include Wednesday 9th May for the ETAWA Student Revision Seminar, Friday 10th and Friday 17th August for the CCI Student Economic Forums and Saturday 8 September for the ETAWA Student Revision Seminar.
The ETAWA website continues to be updated with new material and initiatives added and advertised. The website will provide a focal point for communication this year with Phase 3 Business and Economics consultation commencing and for advertising ETAWA student and teacher activities. If you have some suggestions for the website please send your feedback through the link on the site. The closed, members only section will continue to contain the teaching resources provided courtesy of members and/or the Association. The Executive appreciates your support in sending sample assessments through, especially with some new graduates joining the ranks this year. Keep this going!
I look forward, along with the Executive, to seeing you at upcoming ETAWA events and trust that you will have a smooth start to the new school year.
Kind regards
Mandy Hudson
President
